I Wish

I wish I am heard

Before embarking on any journey, it is only natural to ponder ‘why should I?’ and ‘what for?’. It’s only human. Though I don’t have the credibility of an established writer or even one who has climbed the literary ladder like Shashi Tharoor, one must begin somewhere and I’ve decided to begin right here- to share the experiences of my life, to jot down my brushes with destiny.

In 1979 he commenced operations of Choice from leased premises after his brothers retired from partnership. He not only opened an office in New York but also set up India’s first state-of-the-art shrimp processing plant using IQF technology, exporting ready to eat shrimp for leading US companies. He went on to set up a modern seafood processing plant at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh for Value Added Products.

I sincerely hope my readers will not brush me off as a new comer because I want you to hear me. It could be of use to you. It could help you. I firmly believe that putting your foot forward is the first step toward your destination, Mahatma Gandhi did that, Sachin Tendulkar did that, Mother Teresa did that and now, I too make a beginning in the hope that I will be heard.

Recently I was on a trip to Thailand and Vietnam with Mohanlal. We spent 5 days together. We spent hours in seamless conversation, sharing stories of the past and I thought to myself –I’ve been married 27 years and I’ve never had the luxury of travelling 5 days at a stretch –alone- with my wife, simply because we have 5 children and always travel together. Many a time I have wanted to share a few solitary moments with my wife but have held back when I see the children.

There were occasions I wanted share a piece of wisdom with my oldest daughter Priya, however, when I see the twins Jacob & Elsa listening in, I have no option but to hold back. I have felt incomplete in not being able to share my life with neither my wife nor my children.

However on that trip with Mohanlal we spoke so much. I asked about his life, his path, his success and of course his initial days. In turn, I shared with him my life’s experiences, right from my days in Chennai when I wished somebody would take me out to dinner (which I simply couldn’t afford those days). It was then that Mohanlal told me that his first movie was by accident and not by choice and he was paid a paltry sum. The Director took a risk, the producer took a bigger risk and I am sure the co-stars also took some level of risk and it paid off. He could have been rejected by the audience as well. Look at the result, the value he has created for our country. This is the objective I am referring to. Had he not put his foot forward….!

Therefore I need your support as a new entrant into the world of writing and sharing.

I wish you knew who I am

Did you know that at the age of 16 I lost my father?….For you to fully know me will take a lot of reading! I will be completely honest in sharing all my experiences with you as I go forward.

Did you know that at the age of 17, my widowed mother had the confidence to send me to Japan….alone? Did you know that when I met my Japanese clients they told me that their company policy does not permit dealing with children?

Did you know that the moment I realized I was rejected on account of being a ‘child’, I began shaving four times a day to look like an adult?

There’s a lot more coming friends- watch this page….

I wish we were

I wish everyone would think he can be successful. Do you understand what success is? It is something we celebrate inside our minds. It is the dire result of an evidential feel of achievement. I will be writing more about celebrating success- where I have seen others and myself converting every failure into an opportunity and opportunity into success. Hence I feel one is justified in saying “I wish I was successful”.

Lets watch for what’s next on this page.

I wish we did

As a young cricketer wishes he could be Sachin Tendulkar and a young economist hopes that he emulate Dr. Manmohan Singh, dear friends it’s a long way to this point but one certainly can and I believe one should. ‘I wish I did’ is all about having the will to do it and doing it right. In the course of my life I have, and I’m sure you have too, come across many people who claim “I did it”, who have traversed difficult terrain, their journeys certainly uncomfortable, just to say “I did it”.

Wishing ‘to do’ and having ‘done it’ is two different things. It is effortless to say “I wish I had it”, “I wish I got it”, but to reach there I reminisce the lyrics of Frank Sinatra’s ‘ I DID IT MY WAY’.
